Guide

This is the house guide section for those renting the place from AirBnB. Some of the more technical information such as the Wifi password etc. you will find in the AirBnB Guest Resources section.

About the apartment

The Kitchen

The 30m2 Kitchen is a converted apartment. I’ve paid meticulous attention to detail, decorating with my favourite French storage jars, many filled with my own preserves, recycled ceramic sink, butchers’ block filled with functional and decorative knives and spices, butchers’ hooks for meats, and custom handles for industrial-style cupboards. It has custom shelving forged in wood recycled from Haussmanien parquet with a ladder to reach the high shelves – plus space for magnums. I installed visible copper pipes throughout. And a serious oven and stove!

The bedroom

The bedroom has a double bed, which also serves as a fold-up couch. There are hooks for storage and some small cupboards. And a hairdryer!

The bathroom

This is an original industrial-style bathroom, with a 200 year-old copper showerhead (and a handheld) and Alsacian tiling.

The Terrace

The terrace, located in the courtyard, is for your private use.

Important information

The basics

The apartment contains all you need to start cooking ASAP: condiments, spices, oil, etc.!

Bathroom sink taps

Don’t be afraid to use force to turn on the taps in the bathroom! They are industrial-build.

Dishwasher

We’ve left dishwasher tablets for you. No wood, kitchen knives, iron or coffee pots in the dishwasher please!

Heating

There is 1 electric heater in each room. Please make sure you turn them off when not in use. You can dry your towels in the bathroom by using the heat-controlled racks.

Hot water

The water heater, located above the oven, is set to 2 people. Please turn it up if you need to but it should be Ok.

Lighting

There is a computer set up to control the lighting behind the shelves for all occasions: romantic meal, group dinner, team meeting. There is a remote control on the counter with presets.

Metro and buses

Closest metro is Voltaire, line 9. Plenty of buses leave from Léon Blum.

Parking

If you have a car, you will usually find parking on the street close to the apartment. Be aware that you must pay for parking from 9 am until 8 pm from Monday to Saturday. It’s 1 EUR per 15 mins, while the local carpark is 12 EUR/ day…

Oven and stove

The SMEG oven is gas and electric. It’s seriously big – and I love it.

Pets

Pets are welcome but be sure to take them out to the local dog square on Rue de la Roquette, about 3 minutes’ walk away.

Security

We’ll give you a key ring with 1 key and 2 badges. There is an alarm system, which is located between the door and the fridge. This is activated and deactivated by the small grey badge on the key chain. The other badge is to get into the two doors of the building. The key is for the front door and the courtyard. Don’t forget to lock the doors and close the shutters at night and when you go out.

Smoking

Smoking is permitted on the terrace only. Please don’t smoke inside.

Supermarket

There is a big and cheap supermarket, Simply, about 5 minutes’ walk to the end of the street (left) on 144 rue St Maur. Open 7 days a week and until 10 pm most nights.

Washing clothes

There is no washing machine in the apartment but there is a cheap and cheerful laundromat at 1 Rue St Maur, Lav Club, 2 minutes’ walk.

Wifi

Please check the AirBnB resources, or contact me drictly. There is a 2.4Ghz and a 5Ghz network, please use the later for stability as the 2.4 Ghz spectrum is quite overfilled in most of Paris.

If you break or damage something…

Please let me know, so we can replace it. It is a small space full of stuff so it’s easy to do.

TO EAT…

Cafe Content

11, rue St Maur 75011

Good food very close by. The owner recently changed and we were happy to see that the food got even better. Great ingredients and preparation.

Korus

73 Rue Amelot, 75011

Probably my favourite restaurant nearby. please call them to reserve and feel free to mention that you are staying in the kitchen. They plan out their 7 course menu according to how many patrons they have for the night, so early reservation helps them a lot.

Balls

47, rue St Maur 75011

A cool fun restaurant, if you want something quick and like balls with sauce!

Le Chateaubriand

129 Ave Parmentier, 75011

Top French restaurant but you’ll have to book.

Le Dauphin

131 Ave Parmentier, 75011

Gourmet tapas though it’s a bit starkly decorated, unless you like white marble…

L’Osteria Dell’Anima

One of the best Italian restaurants in the area. They make fresh pasta in the entrance. There are few tables and not sure if you can book, so get there early!

Au Passage

1b Passage Saint-Sébastien, 75011

Acclaimed French restaurant. You probably need to reserve unless you get there after 11.00 pm.

Square Gardette

24 Rue Saint-Ambroise, 75011

A nice French restaurant close to the apartment with a nice kids’ section. Highly unusual for a French restaurant!
